10 Health(ier) Holiday Party Treats

It’s that time of year again when it seems every other day someone is bringing Christmas cookies to the office and every evening there is some type of festive holiday party.  We get overwhelmed with sugar and fat, but often say oh well, I’ll just start being healthy again Jan. 1st.  I am here to say that you don’t have to be a part of the problem, you can be a part of the solution by bringing a healthy option that your coworkers and family will enjoy.  So, I have gathered up some super duper cute, delicious and health(ier) Holiday Party Treat ideas!  Skip the fudge and cheese balls and instead maybe indulge in one of our strawberry & banana candy canes!!  Here’s to you, the holiday spirit and being healthy through the holidays! 

10 - Strawberry Santas

What You'll Need

Strawberries
Whipped Cream (store bought or home made)

Instructions

  1. Wash your strawberries and cut off the stem so that it is flat (this will be the base of your Santa).

  2. Place the strawberry upside down (pointy side up) and spray whip cream around the bottom.

  3. Snip the tip off your strawberry and use a little whip cream to stick it back down.

  4. Add a tiny dot of whip cream to the tippy top of the strawberry and two little dots down the front.


9 - Holiday Deviled Eggs

What You'll Need

6 hard-boiled eggs, cooled and peeled
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
¼ teaspoon ground mustard
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon pepper
Red food colouring
Green food colouring
Water

Instructions

  1. Cut eggs in half lengthwise and scoop out the yolks into a bowl.

  2. Stir in mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper.

  3. Put 5 drops of red food colouring into a bowl of water and 5 green into another bowl of water.

  4. Place the egg whites into the coloured water and allow to sit in the water until the eggs are the shade you like.

  5. Pat the coloured eggs dry.

  6. Fill the egg whites with the egg mayonnaise mixture.

  7. Arrange on a plate, cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours.


8 - Christmas Tree Meringues

What You'll Need

2 egg whites
⅛ tsp. salt
⅛ tsp. cream of tartar
½ cup sugar
6 drops liquid green food coloring
multi-colored sprinkles for "lights"

Instructions

  1. In mixer bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Add salt and cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks form. Beat in food coloring. Beat in sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff and glossy.

  2. Spoon meringue into a pastry bag or a resealable plastic bag. (If using a plastic bag, cut a 1-in. hole in a corner.)

  3. Pipe out 2" tall kisses (or "trees") of meringue onto ungreased foil-lined, or parchment paper-lined, baking sheets. Sprinkle on sprinkles. (Use a large fluted tip such as an M1.)

  4. Bake at 225° for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until dry but not brown. Cool, remove from foil. Store in an airtight container. Makes 3-3½ dozen.


7 - Banana Strawberry Candy Canes

What You'll Need

Bananas
Strawberries

Instructions

  1. Slice the bananas and strawberries into small pieces, making sure you allow for the curve of the candy cane.

  2. Alternate the banana and strawberry pieces into the shape of a candy cane.


6 - Mistletoe Jello

What You'll Need

Packet of Lime Jello Mix
Mint Leaves
WhippedCream
Red Hots
Small Clear Plastic Cups

Instructions

  1. Follow Direction on jello mix and pour into clear plastic cups.

  2. When fully solid top with whipped cream, mint leaves and red hots.


5 - Babybel Santa Bellies

What You'll Need

Package of Babybel Cheeses
Yellow and black card stock
Glue Stick

Instructions

  1. Unwrap cheese so it is down to the wax covering.

  2. Cut out Santa’s Belt out of the black card stock and Santa’s Belt Buckle out of the yellow card stock.

  3. Glue the belt on first then glue the belt buckle on top of the belt.


4 - Snowman Popcorn Cups

What You'll Need

Clear plastic cups or mason jars
Ribbon or fabric for scarves
Black and orange sharpie markers (or orange construction paper if you don’t have an orange sharpie
White popcorn (lightly salted)

Instructions

  1. Draw eyes, nose, smile and button with sharpie.

  2. Tie a ribbon on for a scarf,

  3. Fill with popcorn.


3 - Grinch Fruit Kabobs

What You'll Need

Toothpicks
Grapes
Bananas
Strawberries
Mini Marshmallow

Instructions

  1. Properly wash all fruit, cut off strawberry stems, and slice bananas.

  2. Put the fruit on with the grape at the bottom, the banana slice next, the strawberry pointy tip up and marshmallow last.


2 - Rudolph Pretzel Candy

What You'll Need

Square pretzels
Regular pretzels
Rolos candy
Red Hots

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 230. Place parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Put down square Pretzels and then un-wrapped Rolos.

  2. Cut the regular pretzels with a knife so they look like an “E”.

  3. Place cookie sheet in the oven for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Take it out and insert pretzel antlers at the same time.

  5. Add the Red Hots for the nose.

  6. Let chill in the fridge for 30 mins.


1 - String Cheese Snowmen

What You'll Need

Individual String Cheese packages
Black and orange sharpie markets
Favorite ribbon
Red, black and white cardstock
A snowflake punch
A gluestic

Instructions

  1. Make the top hats out of the black card stock. Glue a red stripe on and finish off with a white snowflake.

  2. Glue the finished hat to the top of the cheese stick.

  3. Draw the face and buttons on with sharpie markers.

  4. Tie the ribbon on for a scarf.
